The Centre Pompidou-Metz's visitor study provides essential information on its visitors and their expectations.

The Centre Pompidou-Metz visitor study 2022 carried out by the GECE* institute, joint-funded by Inspire Metz and the Centre Pompidou-Metz, highlights the return of foreign visitors from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. By the end of 2022, this figure had risen to 19%, having been as low as 8% during the COVID health crisis. The greatest number of visitors are still from the Grand Est region (79%), followed by Ile de France – Paris region (9%).

The study also highlights a record level of "first-time visitors**", at 44.5%, compared with 28% in 2021 and 43% in 2018, proof that the Centre Pompidou-Metz is a draw for the region. 93% of non-Messins (people who live in Metz) consider Metz to be an attractive destination and say they are very satisfied with the city of Metz in general, the tourist sites and the welcome from shopkeepers and restaurateurs. 81% of them are very satisfied with the shopping streets. 76% visit Metz Cathedral.

The estimated turnover for the local economy in 2022 is almost €10 million. 65% of tourists stay in Metz an average of 2.4 nights. Of these, 79% choose accommodation within the city. On average, visitors from outside Metz spend 90 euros per person, 74 euros for day-trippers and 178 euros for tourists. Restaurants, cafés, and bars are the main areas of expenditure, followed by shopping.

The Centre Pompidou-Metz has generated nearly €168 million in sales for the local economy (restaurants, hotels, shops, etc.), excluding transport, since its creation in 2010, excluding the months of closure due to the COVID health crisis.

* Study carried out by the GECE institute from 12th August to 21st December on a sample of 1,899 visitors.
