ÉSAL is a multi-site establishment offering courses in the visual arts, music and dance, with a focus on multi-disciplinary practices and experiences.
The École supérieure d'art de Lorraine, ÉSAL, an Établissement public de coopération culturelle, was created in January 2011 from the merger of the École de l'Image d'Épinal and the École supérieure d'art de Metz Métropole. Épinal and Metz have retained their teaching facilities, each headed by a site director, while the EPCC is headquartered in Metz, bringing together general management and administration. In January 2014, the EPCC ÉSAL integrated the Centre de formation des enseignants en danse et en musique, now constituting the Pôle musique et danse de l'ÉSAL.
EPCC ESAL is the 3rd establishment in France to offer a multi-sectoral training program, including visual and performing arts, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. As such, it awards national diplomas, and teaching is organized in accordance with ministerial decrees. The EPCC's pedagogical approach is also in line with the international, national and local challenges posed by the implementation of European diploma reform.
Pôle Arts Plastiques de l'ESAL in METZ
The Metz facility offers the practice of the arts with state-of-the-art equipment for exploring, experimenting and innovating, and in high-level experimental spaces. The school's pedagogy is structured around three main themes:
- PAN (Argentique et Numérique - Silver and Digital Photography): professional photo studio, enlargers, full silver laboratory (black & white, color) and laminating.
- EDIT*ON: dedicated publishing area with risography, large-format plotter, bookbinder and 3D printer.
- DUPLEX: immersive space for image-movement and sound, with editing stage, multi-screen projection, sound and radio creation.
Agreement with Bliiida
ÉSAL and Bliiida, a third-party place of inspiration, innovation and collective intelligence, have joined forces to give students access to equipment and skills specific to digital manufacturing. The partnership combines training and professionalization.
