Metz's historic city center, with its large pedestrian zone, is home to a number of major retailers and independent shops. Large shopping centers and hubs complete the city's retail offering, such as Muse, Boulevard de Trèves and Metzanine in Metz, Marly Belle Fontaine in Marly and the Actisud (Waves) shopping zone in the Zac d'Augny.

Metz Centre

Metz's hypercentre is dynamic, with a diverse range of stores including independent boutiques, luxury brands, ready-to-wear brands and major retailers such as Nespresso, the Kooples, Maje, Sandro, Sephora, Lacoste, Galeries Lafayette, Sostrene Grene and FNAC.
Shopping in Metz's hypercentre also means discovering the city's cultural riches, its historical heritage, the banks of the Moselle and the green spaces that punctuate the main shopping streets (rue Serpenoise and rue des Clercs), the small streets in the heart of the city (En Chaplerue, rue Marguerite Puhl-Demange, rue du Palais, En Bonne Ruelle...) and the atypical alleyways of the pedestrianized center (rue Taison, rue des Jardins...) and charming squares such as Place Saint-Jacques, Place de Chambre and Place Saint-Louis.

Rue Serpenoise, the city center's main shopping street with over 140,000 passers-by a week, is being redeveloped to make it more attractive.

Peripheral hubs

Peripheral commercial hubs have developed on the outskirts of the Metz Eurometropolis catchment area, connected to the various motorway routes, thanks to a proactive economic development policy (creation of commercial activity zones).

ACTISUD

France's second-largest shopping zone in terms of sales area, and the Eurometropole's leading shopping zone with sales of €435 million, the Actisud zone, located in the communes of Augny and Moulins les Metz, is attractive to a very wide catchment area.

The site is ideally located just 5 minutes from the center of Metz, and is strategically positioned close to two major traffic arteries: the A31 freeway and the RN57.
It offers a wide range of retail outlets, including Castorama, Carrefour, Décathlon, Loisirama, Boulanger, Darty, Action, Naumy and Waves.

MARLY BELLE FONTAINE

Located in the southwest of Metz, in the commune of Marly, this zone is ideally situated close to Metz city center, the Actisud zone and the South-East bypass, which links the A31 and A4 motorways.

Its activity is mixed with craft and commercial activities. This zone, centered around a Leclerc hypermarket, is very attractive, with the presence of other locomotives such as Action, Aldi, Terranimo, Leclerc Pneu Grand Frais, Magasin Vert...

Second largest food shopping destination in the Eurometropole: Marly Belle Fontaine is the second largest food shopping destination in the Eurometropole, benefiting from a Leclerc hypermarket combined with Grand Frais. The area is constantly expanding, with the recent arrival of Leclerc Jouets, KFC and Action.

LA MAXE

Located to the north of the Greater Metz area, in the commune of La Maxe, this zone borders the A31 freeway.

The site is mainly home to service and craft businesses, a car dealership and a store selling market garden produce.

Its ideal geographical location, along the A31 motorway and close to Metz's 1st port, has attracted major companies and businesses, including IKEA, which has set up its logistics site and a store here. With its 18,000m2 of retail space, this commercial powerhouse attracts customers from a very wide catchment area.

Main shopping centers

Shopping centers managed by developers who have invested in the region, such as APSYS and Compagnie de Phalsbourg, complete the metropolitan economic network.

WAVES:

Inaugurated on October 30, 2014, "Waves Actisud" is a shopping center with innovative architecture designed by Gianni Ranaulo, developed by Compagnie de Phalsbourg.

It features 43,000 m2 of retail space on a 17-hectare site, with almost 3,000 parking spaces and 19,000 m2 of green space, for a total investment of 100 million euros.

The center attracts over 4 million customers a year. It offers unique services dedicated to visitors and families: shuttles to move from one end of the center to the other, pony rides, seasonal fun activities and a little train to delight children. Around the lake are 7 restaurants.

Today, 35 stores are open, including Alinea, Cultura, Maisons du Monde, La Grande Récré, Swarovski, Vertbaudet, Réauté Chocolat, Truffaut, Adidas, Nike and H&M.

MUSE

The Muse shopping center is located in Metz's Quartier de l'Amphithéâtre district, close to Metz train station.

The Muse shopping center, with its futuristic architecture and many qualitative retailers, opened its doors in November 2017.

On nearly 80,000 m2, the Apsys group has developed 37,000m2 of retail space with 115 shops and restaurants.

The mall's locomotives, some of which are new to the area, include : Primark, Burger King, Guess, Colombus café, Armani Exchange, KWay, Mango, Dan John, Eden Park, Izac, La chaise longue, Contrebande, Foot Locker, Jimmy Fairly, Leclerc hypermarket...

A leisure area with a Kinépolis cinema and bowling alley completes the district's range of activities.

METZANINE

Bought by H Market in 2024, this open-air shopping center, located on the Sébastopol zone to the east of Metz, offers 18,500 m2 of retail space and 800 parking spaces, opposite the Carrefour hypermarket and Leroy Merlin.

The main thoroughfare revolves around the 2 flagship stores, Boulanger and Action.
It will soon be complemented by a HMarket store, specializing in halal food, covering almost 1,000m².

These superstores are complemented by stores and restaurants around the parking lot: Pizza Del Arte, KFC, Sushi Villa...

A protected promenade links the mid-sized stores, restaurants and stores.
Aldi and Chaussea contribute to the dynamic character of the area.

Promoting the retail ecosystem

The agency works closely with metropolitan retail associations, the Fédération des Commerçants de Metz, the Mission Commerce de la Ville de Metz, the UMIH Moselle and the Eurométropole de Metz to support the local economy and businesses in their day-to-day activities (administrative procedures, regulations, land and property searches, employment, promotion, etc.).
